A musical legacy in Kanata
Since its inception in 1981, the Kanata Symphony has succeeded in providing the community with a rich heritage of orchestral concerts and events.
A typical season for the Kanata Symphony begins with the Fall Family concert. This event traditionally has a musical theme and provides the audience (both young and old) with not just an orchestral concert but an entertaining, enlightening and educational experience.
Over the years, the orchestra has performed with various groups such as ballet, native Indian dancers, magicians, Kiwanis Clowns, Scouts, with themes such as Halloween, Celebrating Canada, International music and Dancing through the Ages. Guest performers have included Kanata mayors and members of the City Council. Young and old are also encouraged to come and join in with the "musical petting zoo" at the conclusion of these family concerts where the audience can actually come and have a close look and a "test-drive" the instruments.
The symphony also presents traditional festive Christmas and Spring Classical concerts in which both professional and aspiring young musicians have performed as soloists with the orchestra.
The Kanata Symphony is celebrating its 35th year of music in the new City of Ottawa providing the community at large with the valuable musical experiences it has been providing in the past and encourages perspective new members to join in with the satisfaction and joy of making music together.
